Classroom Expectations

Classroom Expectations

Fourth Grade Scholars
At Imagine Andrews students are referred to as Scholars.  Scholars strive for “Excellence” in all they do and put forth “100% Effort, 100% of the Time.” Scholars demonstrate excellent behavior and make wise social and academic choices.  Finally, Scholars are moral citizens who respect and care about their peers, their school, and their community.

Before Entering School
Before entering the school and classroom, we expect that all Scholars are:
1.    Ready to learn with a positive attitude
2.    Prepared for the day’s learning
3.    On time
4.    Well-rested
5.    Nourished from a healthy breakfast

While in School
During class time, we expect that all Scholars follow classroom norms (rules) and understand that disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.  Scholars who demonstrate distracting or disobedient behavior will receive consequences.

Homework Policy
Homework will be assigned daily and should take students no more than 60 minutes to complete.  Some long-term projects may require time on the weekends.  In addition, Scholars are required to read 30 minutes a night, which is in addition to the 60 minutes homework time.  Scholars are responsible for turning in homework on time.  Late or non-completed homework assignments (which include projects) will receive a zero as a grade.  In the event that Scholars have an excused absence, an alternate due date will be given.

Parent/Teacher Communication
Scholars will receive a school agenda. Agendas are used to record daily behavioral status and communications between parents and teachers.  We encourage you to check and initial your child’s agenda daily.  To request a phone or in-person conference (with one or both teachers), feel free to contact us to set-up an appointment.  The best way to contact us is by email or the school agenda.  We will do our best to reply within 24-48 hours.

Classroom Visits
If you wish to observe in a classroom, please contact us to prearrange a class visit.  Classroom visits are limited to 45 minutes.  All parents and visitors entering Imagine Andrews must report to the Main Office to sign-in and receive a visitor’s badge.

Class and Student Blogs
We post homework, upcoming events, and important information & dates to remember. We update this site regularly, so we encourage parents to check it often.

Grading Policy

Grading System
Grades will be determined with the following weights:

Assessments & Projects = 50%
Classwork = 35%
Homework = 15%

Grading Scale
A         100% - 90%
B           89% - 80%
C           79% - 70%
D           69% - 60%
E           59% - 50%

A grade of 0 (zero) is given to non-completed and/or late assignments or projects.

SchoolMax Family Portal
SchoolMax is the online information system PGCPS uses to manage student information and grades.  Parents can obtain access to the “family portal” by contacting our school secretary, Mrs. Brinson at 301-350-6002.  We highly encourage you to regularly use SchoolMax to view your child’s grades and progress.  This will help with parent/teacher communication and keep Scholars on the right track.

Scholar Birthdays
Birthday celebrations are conducted during Scholar’s lunchtime and require a 24-hour notice.  If distributing food treats, only store brought items are allowed.  Due to allergies, homemade food items are prohibited.  There are no expectations to this rule.  Also, parents must be present to distribute all birthday treats.

Uniform
Scholars are expected to come to school each day in uniform.  Imagine Andrew’s uniform is a white oxford shirt, crossbow or necktie, khaki bottoms, brown or black belt, plain white or black socks (or solid white tights for girls), and ALL black shoes (including laces and soles).  Scholars who come to school out of uniform will be sent directly to the office, which may result in a phone call home and/or detention.

Monday Folder
Each Monday Scholars will bring home a "Monday Communications Folder” to assist with communication between home and school.  The folder will contain classroom and school-wide information flyers, forms, and any other important documents.  All items should be removed from the folder.  Forms or documents that need to be filled-out and/or signed should be returned in the Monday folder the next day. We will begin using the "yellow" Monday Folders soon.
