First, They should review notes and information about their project to get prepared for the judges. For the children who took their boards home, they need to be back by Monday March 14th. On March 16th, the 13 finalists will be pulled out of class to present their board to judges. On March 17th, The finalists will present their final presentation at the STEM Fair. The STEM fair will be from 5pm-7pm. A flyer should be coming home on Monday about it.

Also, I would like to say it was great to see all the different science fair projects. It was good to see that the children were enthused about their projects. Thank you, the parents, for being patient with your children and helping with their projects as well. On Monday, the students will be able to take home their boards.

Change to Reading Logs

Reading logs still need to be completed as usual, with parents signatures, time read, book title, and overall time read throughout the week. HOWEVER, the summary no longer needs to be written on the log.
Instead, the Book a Day worksheet must be filled out and stapled to the reading log. This will serve as their summary. We are working on retelling and looking for the beginning, middle, and end. We have also been working on thinking about key events and cause and effect. This new worksheet will help students to do this. The sheet should be filled in throughout the week as the students read. They will be sequencing the events in what they read.

This is will helpful practice for the PARCC and help them develop their writing skills.
I ask that ALL students are reading a chapter book at their level. They should read one book throughout the week, rather than skipping around and reading multiple books.

Important Updates

Field Trip
A letter was sent home on Friday about the upcoming field trip. Please read the letter attached. Due to unforeseen circumstances out of our control, the food field trip was never rescheduled. If you paid for that field trip and would like to attend this field trip, a signed permission slip is required. The money paid before will apply to this trip. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me or call the school 301-350-6002.

Progress Reports
Progress reports will be sent home soon. Please check schoolmax as this is the most recent update of your child's grades. When you receive the progress reports, they are about 1-2 weeks old. Additional grades have been inputted since then.

Scholastic Book Orders
March book orders are due MARCH 20th. I will be placing all orders then. I will continue to place Scholastic orders even when Ms. Hayes takes over. She will be getting the boxes and handing out all the books when she receives the box. Thank you for your continued support and helping to build our class library.

Elementary STEM Fair
Just a friendly reminder the STEM Fair is March 17th from 5-7pm. This year's winners will be announced at this time. We hope to see you there!!
