Research Paper and STEM Board
The research paper and STEM Board are due February 23rd. They both count as assessment grades. Rubrics and examples are in the back of your child's STEM book. You can view how your child will be graded on their oral presentation, the research paper and the STEM board. The research paper has 5 components: Title page, Acknowledgements, Question, Research, and Bibliography. Bibliography must be in alphabetical order and the correct format. Refer to page iv for the Research paper rubric. Display board rubric refer to page iii and refer to page ii for the Oral presentation rubric.
We will be conducting oral presentations next week of STEM projects. The Elementary STEM Fair will be on March 17th.

Example of the In Class STEM Fair Conclusion
Scholars should have the in class STEM Fair model we did in December. The following is the typed version we created in class.
Conclusion
The answer to the question is yes, surface area does have
an affect on the rate of evaporation. My hypothesis was (restate hypothesis),
therefore, my hypothesis was correct/incorrect.
I can infer about my results the greater the surface
area, the faster the water will evaporate and the smaller the surface area, the
longer it takes for the water to evaporate. The information about surface area
and the rate of evaporation can help me, others and companies by (give examples
and details to explain). ** Water bottle companies, pool companies, giving your
dog water in the summer time, etc.
I had problems as I conducted this investigation because
two of the graduated cylinders leaked in trials one and three. It was difficult
to measure the water that evaporated. Another problem I had was measuring all
the water with the syringe from each container day to day. Human error of
tilting the syringe made it hard to read the measurements.
If I kept the same topic of surface
area and evaporation, the different idea I would test next year would be (state
your idea and details to support your change).

Updates from 4th grade
Updates on Calendar
Friday, February 12th is a school day for scholars. This was approved by the Board of Education. Pink papers were sent home in Monday folders.
Scholars will have a substitute Thursday, February 11th in Mrs. Nauman's class (morning only) due to professional development training.
Important Information
In your child's Monday folder, there was a letter from Mrs. Nauman and Ms. Hayes regarding my maternity leave. If you have any questions or concerns, please email us or call the school.
Quiz corrections and parent signature were due today. Many scholars did not return this and grades are reflected in schoolmax. I am trying to keep parents informed of grades prior to progress reports and report cards. Please check schoolmax to determine missing assignments. All parents should be receiving graded quizzes from their child every 5 lessons or so. Remember you can also go into thinkcentral.com and view your child's test scores on unit tests. There are reinforcement lessons and games on skills we are learning in class. The math and science resource section of the blog is also beneficial.
STEM Fair
Results were due today. Grades are updated in schoolmax. If your child did not complete the results from their investigation, it is imperative they do the experiment as the conclusion is due 2/16 and the final display board and research paper is due on 2/23.
Oral presentations will occur the week of 2/23 and the Elementary STEM Fair is on March 17th.
Scholastic Book Orders
Scholastic Book Orders will be sent in for the month of February on 2/20. Our class code is JKKPC, if you would like to place an order. The box will come about a week later. Thank you to all those who order. Remember each child received a FREE $5 book coupon if you spend $10 in the month of February. Who doesn't like a free book?
