SMITHSONIAN FIELD TRIP


SMITHSONIAN FIELD TRIP
REMINDER & UPDATES

·      Fourth Grade Scholars will be taking a field trip to the SMITHSONIAN MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY tomorrow, May 23.  Please make sure your child arrives to school on time at 8:15 AM. We will be departing the school promptly at 8:30 AM.

·      Scholars must be in full uniform, but are allowed to wear their Imagine school t-shirt instead of their white uniform top.   Also, Scholars do not need to bring their backpacks to school. 

·      Below are specified Museum rules that Scholars must follow to ensure the enjoyment and safety of all museum visitors.  Please review these rules with your child.
1.    Be considerate of all visitors
2.    Walking and talking are appropriate, while running and shouting are not
3.    Food, drinks, gum, and are not allowed anywhere in the museum except the designated eating areas
4.    Exhibits are very delicate: Please do not touch exhibits or lean on exhibit cases

·      Picture taking is permitted in the museum (unless posted to the contrary) therefore Scholars are allowed to bring a camera (NOT cellphones) to take photos.

·      Scholars are allowed to bring money to buy souvenirs, however the allotted time for visiting the gift shop is not guaranteed. 

·      Since the cost of the field trip included lunch, Scholars should not bring a lunch to school.  Scholars will be dining in the Atrium Café located inside the museum.  Lunch options are listed below and include a whole fruit, chips, and fountain drink or water.

o   Hamburger
o   Cheeseburger
o   Hot Dog
o   Peanut Butter & Jelly
o   Slice of Cheese Pizza

           
Tentative Itinerary

8:30 AM – School Departure

9:15 AM – IMAX Movie “Tornado Alley”

10:00 AM – Museum Exhibits

11:30 AM – Lunch in Atrium Café

12:30 PM – Museum Exhibits/Gift Shop

1:30 PM – Return to Buses/Departure

2:30 PM – School Arrival

Reading under the Stars

Parents: A letter was sent home in the Monday folders about "reading under the stars" summer challenge. Scholars received their own login and password. Scholars read, log minutes to earn prizes and compete against peers and fellow students in other schools. Please look at the following website for more information. If you would like me to send another paper home, let me know. Just a thought "if your child is reading, why not have fun doing it and earn prizes". Thank you for registering. Scholastic Book Orders

If you would like to make an online purchase for Scholastic Book Clubs, please do so. I will be sending the last online order at the end of this week. This will allow for the shipment of books to be here before the last day of school. Thank you to all parents who ordered. REMINDER -- FIELD TRIP MONEY

Scholars are scheduled to take a field trip to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington DC on Friday, May 23, 2014.  The cost of the trip is $25 per student.  THE LAST DAY TO PAY IS TOMORROW, THURSDAY MAY 15TH!

Just A Reminder

This month Fourth Grade Scholars will be reading Gulliver's Travels.   Scholars will use this novel as their independent AND homework reading selection.  The current reading assignment is Part I:  Chapters 7&*  Along with the assigned reading, Scholars will complete a book club discussion sheet that needs to be completed prior to book club meetings.  Book club meetings will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Discussion sheets not completed in class need to be completed as homework. Scholars will be assessed on "Preparation" and "Participation."   If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Ms. Carter.
