STEM Research

Clarifications: The STEM research paper is due on MARCH 20th! Scholars had time this week to conduct research on their STEM topics in Enrichment class. In addition to this class, scholars should research at home (Internet, books, magazines etc). On Monday, scholars need to bring their research to school so they can use class time to start to write their paper. I will be teaching them the fundamentals of writing a research paper, the importance of not plagiarizing and bibliographies.

Thank you for your continued support during this process. It is a challenge, but my goal is to have  4th grade IA scholars make the county STEM fair! Keep up the hard work! Remember if you have any questions or concerns, please email me or call.

STEM Fair

Just a friendly reminder, scholars should work on STEM Fair every night. Please read the booklet as there is useful information in it. When referring to the deadlines on page 1, you will notice the data collection tool was due today 1/30. When looking at the data collection tool on page 23, scholars had some mistakes. Please refer to page 22 as the collection tool required the following items: title, labels to describe rows (x axis) and columns (y axis), space for repeated trials, space for calculation of median and mean, and data is in metric units. Results of scholars' experiments are not due until February 19th.

JUST DANCE!

Tomorrow IAPTO is hosting a school dance in the IA multi-purpose room.  Fourth Grade Scholars will have their dance at 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM and  DO NOT need a signed permission slip to attend the dance.  However, scholars need to be signed-in when dropped off at 5 PM and signed-out when picked-up at 7 PM.  Scholars whose parents are PTO members can attend the dance for free.  Scholars whose parents are non-PTO members need to pay $4 (cash only).  Light refreshments will be served at the dance.

STEM Fair

Just a friendly reminder that scholars should be bringing their STEM fair booklet home every night. Please refer to the deadlines at the front of their book. We learned about the first 2 parts of the research paper today in class (title page and acknowledgements) which are due on 1/24; this is just a rough draft.  Scholars should be working on the research paper in conjunction with their project. I will provide more instruction on the last 3 parts of the research paper next week (question, research, bibliography). I will also provide time in class to work on research, so please make sure scholars are bringing their STEM book to class everyday. The final research paper is not due until March 20, 2014. Thank you.
